I used this book one month prior to sitting for my VTNE. It was helpful, but if you don't known your basic knowledge, this is not the book to review with. I think this is best used as a supplement if you already work in practice, or in addition to your class notes. I liked having a physical paper, that I could take with me on slow nights at the ER.Pros:-bullet point format, no lengthy reading required.-lots of helpful charts/graphs/pictures, which breaks up the monotony of reading sometimes.-updated information, especially in the section of critical/emergency care and diagnostics (blood/ua/cytology)- code for use of online tests and practice-has easy to identity sections to help you find which area you are looking to study-quizzes at the end of each chapter, which I found the MOST helpful part of the entire bookCons:-the avian/exotic animal section (pets, not lab animal) has a lot of outdated or incorrect information, which can show up frequently on the VTNE- there is not justification of the hundreds of answers to the practice test questions. In some cases I doubted the answer, or didn't know where to find the information to review in the giant chapter, so I didn't know why I missed the question- the practice website leaves A LOT to be desired. The questions do not change, if you take a practice VTNE, it will be the exact same the next time, except the questions will be in a different order. Only useful for a couple review sessions. I wish it had the entire bank of questions from the book.Overall, I found the book helpful in preparing for my VTNE, which I passed on my first try. Having used the Colville review prior, I preferred this review book over the Colville hands down.
I bought several study aids for my VTNE, I liked how this one reviewed everything in a nice summary of all the subjects. However I found some of the questions to have incorrect or inconsistent answers. I did like how the answer key explained the answers. I would recommend this book for the review, but be very wary of the inconsistencies with the answer keys. I bought several study aids for the VTNE, and over anything else I would recommend this: Review Questions and Answers for Veterinary Technicians, 5th Edition by Heather Prendergast. I recommend this one over anything else because I actually recognized questions on the VTNE word for word from the Prendergast book. This gets 4 stars though because it was still helpful in preparation for the test.
I had all my books and notes from school to study from and it was so difficult to get the information needed from all of them. This book was awesome to put it all in one place and then if I needed further clarification that this did not include I would reference back to my other texts. It requires you to already understand the concepts so it will not necessarily "teach" you the material.I recently passed the test with this book being one of the only things I used to study from.
Great study guide and there is alot of important information provided in this text.A little expensive but the book was required for school. Can be used to study for boards and as a reference guide in the future.I would recommend this textbook.
This is a great tool for the VTNE! I am starting a year ahead and getting into it to prepare myself early on, and this book seems to do a great job at that. The only thing I worry about is with it being a book and not being able to mix up the questions, I may get to a point where I just know the answer because I have done it so many times. So I intend to use this as a guide to know what to study, and when I feel I have a full understanding of the topics, then I will try the tests in the book. This way I do not simply memorize them, but know them.
The information was good, but some of the answers to the practice quizzes were wrong. If you are looking for a book so you can just answer questions and have practice tests to take, I would NOT recommend this one. If you plan on reading it cover-to-cover, then this is a good study aid. AAVSB makes an android/apple app with practice questions I highly recommend - pocket prep.
This book is very helpful for the studying veterinary technician. Not only do you get practice questions, but the book will reference what chapter you can find the answer if you got the question wrong. Questions are easy to photo copy from the book.
I am so thankful I found this book, it has been extremely helpful as both a reference guide and VTNE review. Really wish I had it during school, as the book is done in an outline format that would have supplemented the course material and made it easier to understand.
